The historical origins of realist oil painting still life can be traced back to traditional Western painting. However, in China, after years of development and fusion, it has long formed an artistic style with local characteristics. It is rooted in China's profound cultural soil, absorbing nutrients from traditional culture, while actively drawing on the techniques and concepts of Western realist painting, constantly expanding its own artistic boundaries.

From a technical perspective, contemporary Chinese realist oil painting still life demonstrates an outstanding standard. The painters' mastery of light and shadow is exquisite; the subtle transition of light on the surface of objects and the delicate shaping of light and dark contrasts make the still life in the picture seem endowed with real life. Every wrinkle and every texture is vividly presented under the painters' meticulously crafted brushstrokes. Depicting the luster of fruit skin, the exquisite patterns on vases, or the mottled pages of old books with delicate brushstrokes, viewers feel as if they can touch the texture of these still life objects through the canvas.

Color application is also a major highlight. Painters are no longer limited to simply restoring the inherent colors of objects but skillfully use color combinations to create atmospheres and convey emotions. Or adopting soft and elegant tones to create a serene and peaceful artistic conception, allowing viewers to feel the slow flow of time while appreciating the painting; or using strong and vivid color contrasts to endow the still life with powerful visual impact, highlighting its unique artistic tension. For instance, using warm tones to depict a still life combination in a corner of the kitchen full of life atmosphere, conveying warmth and the bustle of daily life; using cool tones to depict old objects placed by the window, creating a slightly cool and quiet nostalgic atmosphere.

In terms of subject matter selection, it is even more rich, diverse, and full of life atmosphere. Common flowers, fruits and vegetables, daily necessities, etc., have all become the protagonists under the painters' brushes. In realist oil painting still life with flower themes, the delicacy of the flowers and the stretching of the branches and leaves are vividly portrayed, showing the beauty of nature and the brilliance of life; fruits and vegetables carry a strong flavor of daily life; a basket of fresh tomatoes or a few plump apples remind people of the joy of harvest and daily dining moments. There are also those old objects bearing the traces of time, such as old clocks and vintage radios, which quietly tell stories of the past in the picture, evoking nostalgic sentiments and reflecting the changes of the times and the imprints of life.
The significance contained in contemporary Chinese realist oil painting still life goes far beyond the mere depiction of objects. It is the artistic crystallization of painters observing and understanding life, capturing and freezing those subtle yet beautiful moments in life. Each work is like a silent poem, containing the painter's emotions, thoughts, and love for life. Some works convey a quiet and stable attitude towards life by depicting simple household still life; others use combinations of historically significant objects to trigger memories and reflections on traditional culture and past times, allowing viewers to resonate emotionally during the appreciation process and then think deeply about the close connection between life and art.

In the art market, contemporary Chinese realist oil painting still life also receives much attention. Combining artistic value and aesthetic appreciation, it attracts the eyes of many art collectors.
